VANCOUVER, British Columbia Gavin Bayreuther is a good defenseman, and the Stars are hoping he can add to a mix of 20 something blue liners who eventually solidify the back end for years to come.

The skilled defenseman out of St. Lawrence University who signed a free agent contract with the Stars on Wednesday is a solid prospect who is worth the risk of a two year contract. And while the soon to be 23 year old still probably needs a year of AHL experience, he adds to a mix that continues to get thicker.

Bayreuther joins Dillon Heatherington (acquired in trade from Columbus) and 2014 first round draft pick Julius Honka as defensmen who are knocking on the NHL door. And when the NHL group already includes 22 year old Esa Lindell and 24 year olds John Klingberg jersey cheap, Stephen Johns and Jamie Oleksiak jersey cheap, Dallas is walking a fine line between experience and talent on defense.

“We are very Young jersey cheap, and the NHL isn’t a developmental league, but we think we have good players,” said Stars general manager Jim Nill. “I think you want to collect talented players with different skill sets and let them make the decisions for you. We’ll put them in the positions where we hope they succeed and where we give them the best opportunity, and then we see what happens.”

Bayreuther adds to the skilled side of the defense. The 6 1, 195 pound lefty had 111 points (35 goals, 76 assists) in 142 collegiate games and is seen as a solid power play quarterback with a good shot.

“He’s going to need some time in the American League,” Nill said. “It’s a matter of increasing his strength, getting used to the speed of the game, getting used to playing against older guys. Some guys, they do that relatively fast. Some guys, it takes a year or two. He’s one of the top college defensemen who is a very good athlete, so we think there is a lot of potential there.”

Heatherington, 21, is a bigger, more defensive defenseman at 6 4, 220. He has 110 games of AHL experience and, like Bayreuther, is expected to finish out the season with the Texas Stars and then get ready for Stars camp next fall. Honka, 21, was able to jump straight into the AHL in 2014, so he has 184 AHL games under his belt and will be called up to play eight to 10 NHL games to finish the season, Nill said.

When Honka does get the call, that could mean players like Patrik Nemeth jersey cheap and Greg Pateryn will be facing more healthy scratches. It could also mean that Oleksiak and Johns are under even more pressure to make an impression before tough decisions are made this summer.

It’s a bubbling cauldron for the Stars on defense. Klingberg, Lindell and veteran Dan Hamhuis jersey cheap look like locks for next year’s roster, but all other positions on defense seem up in the air.

“There are no guarantees with any player, but you have to trust your assessment and your development staff and do the best you can to get the most out of the players,” Nill said. Wholesale Jerseys
“You’re dealing with human beings, and you have to see how each one develops. John Klingberg jersey cheap has 200 games now, so he is at a different stage. Other players have gained a lot of experience this year. It’s a process, and it’s a fine balance between patience and winning.”

In the long run, Nill still believes patience will lead to winning. That’s why he’s adding depth to an area where he believes there will always be need.

“It sounds harsh, but there is a chance that all five or six don’t develop,” he said. “As long as there are two or three, then you can set yourself up for a long time. Give yourself the best opportunity to find the best players.”

LAS VEGAS, NV JUNE 22: New Las Vegas NHL franchise owner Bill Foley and commissioner Gary Bettman of the National Hockey League pose for a photo during the Board of Governors Press Conference prior to the 2016 NHL Awards at Encore Las Vegas on June 22, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The NHL’s board of governors approved expanding to Las Vegas, making the franchise the 31st team in the league. The team will start play during the 2017 18 season and play at the newly built T Mobile Arena. (Photo by Bruce Bennett/Getty Images)

Here’s my take on the NHL’s expansion draft next summer: Be prepared to lose a good player.

The new owner of the Las Vegas expansion team paid $500 million for the right to be in the league, so he deserves a good roster. The NHL is taking a risk on another Sun Belt destination, so they need this to work out. And, honestly, if you want people to be excited about hockey in Las Vegas, you need the team to win quickly.

The only way to do that is to force teams to expose talented players that the squad in Las Vegas can pluck. If the club elects to make a restricted free agent goaltender available in order to meet this requirement, that goaltender must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the club’s protected list.

Players with potential career ending injuries who have missed more than the previous 60 consecutive games (or who otherwise have been confirmed to have a career threatening injury) may not be used to satisfy a club’s player exposure requirements, unless approval is received from the NHL. on Saturday, June 17, 2017. on June 20. The announcement of their selections will be made June 21.

It’s pretty easy to get to three protected defensemen with the Stars in John Klingberg jersey cheap, Stephen Johns and Esa Lindell. Julius Honka seems to not need protection, as his 18 and 19 year old seasons have “slid” and are not considered pro seasons.

But what if the Stars make a trade for a big name defenseman Cheap Jerseys
or sign one in free agency. Do you leave him unprotected? Do you push for a player on a one year deal? It’s going to be challenging for GMs, agents and players.

But that’s the way it should be. Teams should be forced into giving up something good. It’s incumbent upon the front office to use every trick it can, but the bottom line is this team needs good players and it needs to be good quickly.

That’s what’s good for the league.

The Stars have already lost their top minute defensemen from last season in Alex jersey cheap Goligoski and also are expected to lose Jason Demers jersey cheap and Kris Russell jersey cheap to free agency. Los Angeles could lose Milan Lucic jersey cheap, Boston could lose Loui Eriksson jersey cheap, Tampa Bay could lose Steven Stamkos jersey cheap.

So if expansion costs the Stars someone like Brett Ritchie, then that’s just part of the cost of doing business. The NHL has definitely learned a few valuable lessons from past expansions, and they want to do it better this time.

“It was pretty hectic. He was out of here pretty quick,” Jamie Benn jersey cheap said. “He was just packing his bag and receiving phone calls. I just wished him good luck.”

But the Stars captain said he believes that his older brother could benefit from the separation.

“I told him that last night,” Jamie Benn jersey cheap said Tuesday morning. “Now he can be Jordie Benn jersey cheap and not Jamie Benn jersey cheap’s brother. I think this is going to be great for him, and he can move on and move forward with his career. And I’m excited to see what happens with him.”

Jordie Benn jersey cheap has been one of the Stars’ more consistent depth defensemen for years, but fans have called him a product of nepotism. With Montreal acquiring Jordie Benn jersey cheap hoping he can help them win a Stanley Cup, it shows he has value with another organization. And even Jordie Benn jersey cheap admits that gives him an opportunity to prove himself.

“I get that a lot in Dallas, I’m hidden behind a superstar, which is true, my brother’s an amazing player.” Jordie Benn jersey cheap told the media in Montreal Tuesday. “So yeah, I just get to come here and I get to be Jo Benn, and not Jamie Benn jersey cheap’s brother.”

Still, the 300 plus games the two played together in Dallas were a dream come true. Jamie Benn jersey cheap was a fifth round draft pick in 2007 and started playing for the Stars in 2009. Jordie Benn jersey cheap moved in with his brother and started playing with the CHL’s Allen Americans. A strong run by Jordie in Allen created an opening with the AHL’s Texas Stars, and the older brother started his climb.

In 2011 12, he played Wholesale NHL Jerseys
three games with Dallas in the NHL. Then, 26 games the next season. Then, 78 in 2013 14. Through each season, he was supposed to be beat out by Young jersey cheaper defensemen. Through each season, he won the job.

It was an impressive display.

“He definitely worked his way up through the system, it was good to see,” Jamie Benn jersey cheap said. “He’s a hard working guy and he’s got a great opportunity to go win a cup on a great team in a great organization.”

Jordie Benn jersey cheap believes he can make his mark in Montreal.

“I skate well. I penalty kill. I’m physical when I can be. I just try and do what a stay at home D man is supposed to do, and that’s get the puck to the forwards and let them do the work,” Jordie Benn jersey cheap told Montreal media. “Obviously, I have personal ties with my brother being there, but we’re big boys now and we know what could happen. Hopefully, I can help the team win and hopefully I can play 300 or 400 games in Montreal. I’m just a kid living a dream and obviously to play in Montreal is pretty exciting.”

As for Jamie Benn jersey cheap, he has to help the Stars move forward through a disappointing season and help them get back on their feet before next year. He said his feeling Tuesday was thankful he and his brother were able to play together so long.

“It was fun while it lasted,” Benn said. “I wished him luck. He’s got a great opportunity going to Montreal and playing for a great team. We’re going to move forward here, and he’s going to move on.”

Of course, the schedule makers do have the Stars playing at Montreal on March 28. That would be the first time the Benn brothers face off against each other at any level of competition.

Because of Salt Lake’s entry into the International Hockey League in 1984, what was once a Midwestern bus league has expanded into major league markets from coast to coast and boasts talent half a step away from the National Hockey League.

When the Eagles moved to the Delta Center in 1991, it spelled the end of an era. Though roomy and new, the DC lacks the gloried history of the Salt Palace. Through nearly 1,000 hockey games, the Salt Palace hosted eight league championship series, two Central Hockey League All Star games and countless memories and traditions, from between period puck shoots to Bikini Night. It started in the days when many goalies went without facemasks and most skaters played helmetless, when wooden dashers and wire screen defined the rink.

Eagle legend Lyle Bradley had an assist on that goal. His retired jersey, No. 11, hangs from Delta Center rafters as do five championship banners, three CHL, two IHL. The other jersey hanging there is Doug Palazzari’s No. 24. “Pizza” led the Eagles to two CHL titles and was one of the most talented American skaters. Another American who starred for the Eagles in a sport still dominated by Canadians was current Pittsburgh Penguin Joey Mullen. He holds the NHL record for career points by an American and has skated on three Stanley Cup championship teams and two Adams Cup Eagle teams. Mullen has enjoyed more Success jersey cheap than any other Eagle, and it all started in Salt Lake.

On defense, the Eagles have featured Moose Vasko, Brent Meeke, Steve Harrison, Paul Terbenche, Glenn Patrick, Neil Labatte, Len Frig and Ken Sabourin. Smooth forwards like Bradley, Mullen and Palazzari, Guyle Fielder, Rich Chernomaz, Charlie Simmer, Richie Hansen, Marc Bureau, Theoren Fleury and Scott MacLeod collectively scored almost as many points as the Salt Palace had bricks. Holt, Floyd Thomson, Jim Nill, Curt Brackenbury, Rick Bowness, Dave Hrechkosy and Perry Anderson jersey cheap did the dirty work in the corners. Enforcers Paul Kruse, Kerry Clark, Stu Grimson, Martin Simard, Reggie Fleming, Paul Tantardini and Rick Hayward kept the Eagle penalty box warm.

Too many faces go unmentioned: Fans, management, trainers, stickboys, rinkrats, ushers, pressbox aides, popcorn and soda vendors; they, too, helped make hockey something to look forward Cheap Jerseys from China
to. As the Golden Eagles’ 25th anniversary season comes to a close, fans everywhere mourn the loss of a hockey team. We are all genuinely fortunate to be able to recall so many fond memories of the past quarter century. Isn’t it ironic that the Golden Eagles’ final home opponent is the San Diego Gulls? Anyone care to bet on the score?
